Dr. Daniel Warren of Envita Medical Centers Highlights Challenges of Lyme on Fox8 News Now
Lyme disease, a tick-borne infection, can be difficult to diagnose due to its varied manifestations, leading to further complications and difficulties in treatment. Speaking to KC O'Day of Fox8 News Now, Dr. Daniel Warren, N.M.D., Envita Medical Centers, said, “Sometimes it's hard to even notice that you've been exposed, until you start manifesting symptoms, which sometimes can happen weeks, months, or even years later.”
Referring to the absence of a bull's eye rash, which is indicative of a tick bite and is considered a gold standard for diagnosing Lyme disease, Dr. Warren, who has been treating late-stage Lyme disease patients for 25 years, said that many patients do not experience this initial indicator. To add to it, the wide variety of symptom presentations, make it hard for standard physicians to diagnose the disease, especially if they are inexperienced in treating Lyme and are not Lyme-literate.
Lyme disease may manifest different symptoms of varying intensity, such as flu-like symptoms, musculoskeletal aches, abdominal pain, bloating, and neurological symptoms, like brain fog and memory loss. Depending on various factors like disease burden and the immune status of the patient, patients experience differing symptoms.
Explaining how Lyme disease can remain dormant in our system for years before manifesting, Dr. Warren said, “Once the immune system is compromised and there's no longer a defense, that's when the symptoms can come out.” To know more about the challenges of diagnosing and treating Lyme disease as well as the preventive steps to be taken to avoid tick bites, click here https://www.fox8tv.com/newspost/tick-season-and-lyme-disease/ and here https://www.fox8tv.com/newspost/more-with-dr-daniel-warren/.
