Dr. Dino Prato of Envita Medical Centers Shares His Opinion with Business Times on Skin Cancer Myths

The misinformation about sunscreens causing skin cancer could do more harm than good, because skipping the sunscreen when you are outdoors can have severe consequences. “UV exposure wreaks havoc on the skin by generating free radicals that produce inflammation and damage cell function and your skin's DNA,” said Dr. Dino Prato, CEO and Founder, Envita Medical Centers.

Sharing his opinion in an article published by Business Times, Dr. Prato explained, “This DNA damage can cause changes in your genes called mutations that lead to skin cancer.” His team of physicians, who are specially trained in the personalized medicine approach, have been treating late-stage skin cancer patients for over two decades. Many of these patients were left with limited options in standard cancer treatment facilities.

To help other people avoid triggers which could lead to similar situations, Dr. Prato emphasized the need to understand the difference between facts and myths. Debunking the anti-sunscreen myths spread by social media influencers, he highlighted how sunscreens play a crucial role in blocking out harmful UV rays. He also advised to refer the Environmental Working Group's (EWG) annual guide on the safety and efficacy of sunscreen products, offering consumers reliable information to make informed choices.
