Dr. John Oertle of Envita Medical Centers Discusses Increasing Cancer Incidence in People Under 50 on the Integrative Cancer Solutions Podcast
Cancer is no longer just a disease of the elderly as several studies indicate its increasing incidence in younger adults, people under the age of 50. “One of the risk factors for cancer is ageing. . .but within the last 10 to 15 years we are seeing this increased incidence of the younger population coming down with cancer,” said Dr. John Oertle, Chief Medical Director, Envita Medical Centers. Speaking to Dr. Michael Karlfeldt on his podcast, Dr. Oertle highlighted that in their clinical practice, his team at Envita is seeing this increased incidence across all cancer types, and typically the disease is more aggressive in the younger population.
“Cancer usually isn't just a cause and effect, it's a multi-variable disease, that has many factors in it,” said Dr. Oertle, while emphasizing the need to identify the root causative factors triggering the disease in each individual patient. He explained how gathering detailed information about the unique set of causes triggering the disease in each individual patient plays a crucial role in developing more comprehensive treatment protocols for each individual patient. Factors like mutations, carcinogens, immune system suppression, and nutrient deficiency, contribute to triggering the disease, underlining the need for a multi-dimensional approach to target the cancerous cells, while strengthening the patient's immune system for lasting outcomes.
The Envita team follows a unique approach of personalized precision integrative oncology, which includes proprietary treatments, based on detailed genomic analysis and various other factors. “It's a complex disease with a lot of moving pieces,” said Dr. Oertle, reiterating how their team has been specially trained to address these moving pieces for lasting outcomes in both younger as well as ageing populations.
